Darkfallworld.com has posted an interview with Ilythiiri today. Ilythiiri's guild leaders (Czepa and Schiva_Silver) offered answers to some questions about their guild. To read all of Darkfall clan interview below:
How and when did your clan start off, and what challenges did you face until you reached the current state your clan is in?
Ilythiiri was formed in March 2007 in a nautical MMO called Voyage Century Online in the server Magellan. Schiva_Silver and Leela (Schiva's best friend in RL) had already become pirates and wanted to make a name for themselves, so instead of fitting in with the other Drama-Queen guilds they created Ilythiiri – the first successful PvP/PK-Pirate guild on the server. The clan progressed, recruiting a bunch of quality PvP players and turned out to be really successful in city sieges and wars. Sadly… the game owners got too greedy and the players got too extreme with the item mall (real life cash exchanged for uber in-game items) so most of us moved onto different games.
Since early June this year, Schiva_Silver (Founder of Ilythiiri) and I (Czepa) have been writing on the DFO forums, trying to get the right message across about what our goals are in order to attract like-minded players to our guild, and so far we've been quite successful with 60+ new Ilythiiri members on our forums.
Do you have any plans setup for Darkfall once it comes out, or are you more of an act when the time comes clan?
We have a basic idea that we want to learn as much as we can from day 1. We want to: have power, but not control people. Fight against the zerg guilds, but not become a zerg. Have guidelines, but not rules etc. It is all proportional to what we do and how we (and others) see Ilythiiri. So we will "act when the time comes" depending on what it is that "comes" our way because we don't exactly know all the details about the game.
As far as conquest goes we aren't totally sure if we want a city for ourselves yet, because we might be able to function a lot better with small outposts scattered through Nagast, it really just depends how much effort it takes to maintain a city and we will ask ourselves weather we really want to be held back by the need to defend it.
What is the size of your clan currently, and do you have any plans in expanding it in the future for Darkfall?
We currently have 64 members (18/10/2008) which are pretty active at our forums and we will keep accepting more players up until the release, then asses it from there.
What race(s) does your clan plan on using once Darkfall begins? Will you be accepting other races as well in the future?
We are an Alfar only clan, and after some discussion we have decided that it's best to stay that way, although we do have ideas about a trade alliance with an ork/mahirim guild.
Do you have any allies or enemies yet? Are you a part of any alliances/factions that you are willing to talk about?
We don't want to reveal anything yet, but we will not be all alone; to compete with the massive guilds you need a little backup from time to time.
Are you currently recruiting right now? If so, how would someone apply for your clan?
We are still looking for mature players preferably those with experience in both FPS and MMO. If there are people who are interested in joining we encourage them to get a closer look into the way we operate (before applying) by reading the threads in our "About Ilythiiri" forum which you can find here: http://ilythiiri.org/about-ilythiiri-f19.html
You can apply by posting a new thread in our recruitment forum: http://ilythiiri.org/recruitment-and-guild-application-f6.html
How do you stand out against other clans? Why would someone want to join your clan?
Well, we offer a pretty unique environment for gamers who want to become part of a tight knit community; our planned structure encourages close friendship while still maintaining a functional guild. This involves letting the members create their own groups which we refer to as squads.
You can read more about this by visiting: http://ilythiiri.org/guild-structure-basic-layout-t196.html
Why did your clan decide to choose Darkfall?
Well, Schiva_Silver and I had left Ilythiiri by the end of 2007 I just went back to playing CS and WC3 then I got an email from Schiva (early June) about Darkfall so I checked it out… and it really interested me, after further discussion through MSN and Ventrilo I got the old Ilythiiri forums back up and we started figuring our what the basics of the guild will be like… then it caught on pretty fast from there.
How is your clan organized? What type of political system does it relate to the most (democracy, dictatorship, etc.)?
Well I wouldn't really know enough about political systems to tell you! But if I had to describe our system in one word it would be "Equal" everyone in our guild is free to do what they like, and to have an equal say or equal vote in what our guild does… in certain situations it will be purely up to me and Schiva, but most of the time I think its fair to involve everyone to have a say about the direction in which the guild decides to go.
As leaders Schiva_Silver and I will not give direct "orders" of what to do, we're up for some fun just as much as any other player, the way we govern the guild is just as a guide.
Does your clan play any other games as well? If so, which ones?
I remember a while back a few of our veteran members were playing "Requiem" and "World of Kung Fu". Since the forming of this new Ilythiiri Darkfall clan a few of us have been playing Americas Army to get to know each other and build up team spirit.
Do you have any comments you would like to add before we're finished?
If anyone wants to be part of an EXPERIENCED, MATURE, and SKILLFUL clan with no compromise to fun then Ilythiiri is definitely an option you should consider.
