Tags : WildStar's Interview With Carbine Studios - Talks PvE, PvP and More
WildStar ESP bring us an exclusive interview with Carbine Studios Senior Community manager, David "Scooter" Bass, and the EU/UK Community Manager, Mark "Anlath" Hulmes. Some of the most important questions for WildStar were asked in the interview. Take a look at the questions and the answers below.
Let's start with the PVE. Raids are one of the aspects that make players play a game month after month. We already know that Wildstar will feature massive raids. Can we expect something massive like for example the first Ahn'Quiraj from World of Warcraft? Also, will raids be tied to the main storyline of the game? If so, can you give us some details about the background story?
David "Scooter" Bass: We're all MMO players here, so we are well aware that not every WildStar player will experience the content that's in a raid, and that's okay! As long as you design your content with that in mind, we think it can provide a better experience for everyone, both raiders and non-raiders alike. That being said, we're looking to keep the main storyline outside of raids. Starting at the level cap, players will unlock new quests that take them through the continuing storyline which delves into the mystery of Nexus. These quests can be soloed or grouped up for, but will not take place inside raids.
Mark "Anlath" Hulmes: As for any details about the raids themselves? I'm afraid we're keeping those a bit secret for now.
Continuing with the Lore, and perhaps being a bit too early to talk about future expansions, how will the story plot turn when the first expansion arrives? Will we continue chasing the knowledge of the Eldan? Will we leave Nexus in hopes to discover and explore new planets? Maybe will we end looking for the Eldan's descendants after discovering the possibility that they are still alive in some remotely place of the galaxy?
David "Scooter" Bass: We're still trying to launch this game! We can't really talk about where the game might go after launch without spoiling the story that'll be in the game at release, so let's revisit this question after the game's out.
Time to talk about PvP. Do you have any plans to make professional competitions at an ESL level or even for the ESL? When it comes to the Arenas, will there be season winners like in World of Warcraft with final rewards like mounts and especial titles?
David "Scooter" Bass: While we're certainly keeping an eye on the Esports industry, we think it's something that has to happen naturally within the game before we can think of making anything official. If players enjoy the PvP and the competitive aspects of it, we'll certainly look to put more resources into those systems both inside and outside of the game.
Let's not stop with the PvP. Can you tell us something about Warplots? Will Warplots be massive battlegrounds like Tol Barad from World of Wacraft? Do players need to have a minimum level to participate? Are Warplots related in any form to the "contested" zones that appear in the official website?
David "Scooter" Bass: Unfortunately we can't talk much about Warplots yet, but you should expect to see massive 40v40 battles starting at the level cap. We'll have more details to share in the future!
Regarding the "contested" zones, how often will we able to conquer them? If a zone is under our faction control, will there be any special PvE content, like quest, dungeons, or daily quest that will allow us to gain special faction reputation tied to that zone?
David "Scooter" Bass: While we do allow for open-world PvP (either by flagging yourself or by choosing to play on a PvP server), we are not launching with any sort of open world objectives, faction control, etc. "Contested" zones in WildStar are simply ones that do not belong to either faction, and therefore you can PvP freely in them if you're flagged for it.
Another of the features that people likes from Wildstar is the Housing. Will you host competitions like "the most beautiful garden" "best functionality house" "the most original decoration" etc.? In future updates, do you have any plans to implement Guild Houses where a whole Guild can gather together to have a "party" or "show" conquered trophies both from PvE and PvP? Or even having private rooms for the guild officers to gather and discuss important topics related to the guilds?
Mark "Anlath" Hulmes: We've actually already run a number of housing contests in the beta (we've featured them in our WildStar Wednesdays) and they've proven to be a lot of fun for us and the testers! So we'll definitely be looking at doing those once the game has launched! With regard to guild housing. It's not going to be in release, but we know a lot of people are asking for it so it's something that's being discussed and thought about. However, don't forget that we have Warplots *and* you'll be able to set your guild mates as your "neighbors" which allows them to visit your house and use your plugs. We also have a Roommates features which allows somebody you set as a Roommate to make work on your house and contribute to making it awesome!
Will we see important role-playing features like emotes implemented in to the game?
Mark "Anlath" Hulmes: There's definitely emotes (I'm a big of /flex) and we've had a very strong relationship with a lot of eager WildStar roleplayers from the outset. We've gathered their feedback and we're looking into what other tools or small additions we can do to make roleplayer easier and more fun! Also, because of our moddable UI, some beta testers are already creating UI addons for Roleplaying.
Recently we knew that Wildstar will need to be purchased in order to play and that players will need to pay a monthly sub. We have seen a lot of people that doesn't like that idea. Do you want to tell something to players regarding that and why that decision is the best for Wildstar?
Mark "Anlath" Hulmes: I think it's worth reminding people about the C.R.E.D.D system. A monthly subscription is one *option* of how to pay for WildStar, if that's not you thing then you can use a C.R.E.D.D to gain in-game time. The way C.R.E.D.D works is that you buy the game and get your first 30 days included. In those 30 days you save up some earned in-game money and buy C.R.E.D.D from other players via the exchange (check name). You can then consume your C.R.E.D.D like a potion and it gives you another 30 days.
I think using this model means a couple of important things. One, it provides an extra option for those who can't afford or don't want to pay a subscription. Two, it also provides a sense of value on the game and means that if we want people to keep paying, we have to make good content they enjoy playing.
And now, to finalize, with Wildstar being delayed to 2014, are there any possibilities that Wildstar will be translated to more languages apart from English, French, and German? Spanish perhaps?
Mark "Anlath" Hulmes: At this time there aren't plans to localize/translate WildStar into other languages. But who knows what the future holds!
