Turbine, Inc. announced today that it will be taking over control of the European version of the Lord of the Rings Online, currently run by Codemasters. Codemasters will continue to run the European LotRO service until June 1st, at which point European players will need to migrate their accounts to Turbine's merged US and EU "mega-service" they are calling the LotRO Global Service.
According to LotRO's executive Producer, Kate Paiz:
“We are working very closely with our partner Codemasters Online to facilitate a smooth transition to our new global service. We will be providing free account transfers to our new global service and players will be notified when the transfer utility is available.”
This announcement comes fresh on the heels of Turbine's introduction of French and German versions of Dungeons & Dragons Online, released earlier this month. Players can expect a "limited service interruption" during the transition, but are promised that their account status, characters, items and earned points will remain intact. More information can be found on the Official FAQ.
