Last Monday night April 12, at 17:50 p.m. (GMT) on the Gorgos server, a group of Asmodian players allegedly succeeded in bringing an end to the race for Tahabata in Europe. They are hailed as the first on a European server to successfully squash the prestigious Dark Poeta boss and ultimately earn themselves a place in the Aion gamers' hall of fame.
While we wait for the kill to be independently verified by NCsoft, we interviewed the players involved to see what they had to say.
1. So tell us who was in the team?
Clik (Royal Legion) - Templar
Verman (Royal Legion) - Assassin
Awru (Royal Legion) - Gladiator
Boge (Royal Legion) - Chanter
Kira (IX Kohorta) - Cleric
Volc (Royal Legion Rebel) - Ranger
2. Is there anyone else you'd like to credit?
Verman: "Yes, many of our previous attempts also included Baku and Draco from Royal Legion."
3. How long have you been trying to tackle the beast of Tahabata?
Verman: "It took us ten attempts over the course of about three weeks."
4. Did you get frustrated from all the failed attempts?
Verman: "No, because we were making progress all the time and we were happy with this. Our first run was just for fun but after that we spent about an hour after each attempt talking about our problems and working out tactics for next time. The first try got Tahabata down to 40%, then we improved this by about 5-10% each time after that."
5. Did you need any special gear or items to get the job done?
Clik: "At first we thought the whole team would need a full set of anti-fire gear but in the end we found Fenris was fine. We took tonnes of potions and everyone carried self resurrect stones."
6. What was the key to success?
Verman: "The main thing was making sure we had huge amounts of DPS. Also, we had to make sure we all used skills in perfect timing. For example, when the adds came at 25% we had to use our special skills then to make sure we didn't all die."
7. How long did it take to finish and how many times did you wipe?
Verman: "We generally make it to the end of Dark Poeta in 1 hour 40 minutes. After that it took us 7 minutes to kill Tahabata."
Clik: "Tahabata casts a special skill at 10 minutes anyway and everyone will die, so if you don't kill her within that time you will fail."
8. What were the drops?
Verman: "Tahabata dropped a Dragon Flame Headband and an Anuhart Elite's Dirk."
9. What was the scariest moment?
Verman: "Four adds appear when the boss reaches 25% health and they can almost one-hit-kill the first person they target. The other thing is, Tahabata casts a spell to randomly paralyse a party member. After 10-20 seconds, if the Cleric doesn't dispell the paralysis, Tahabata destroys that person. When we tried again today we wiped because of that."
10. What was the funniest moment?
Clik: "The amount of screaming in chat during the last percent of Tahabata's health! There was a lot of swearing in Polish."
11. What advice would you give to anyone else giving it a go?
Clik: "We'd definitely recommend that the healers in the team use a full set of anti-fire armor to make it easier. Specifically, Dragon Flame or Flame of Hell sets work best for the healers (Chanter and Cleric). Everyone else can just use Anuhart, Fenris or full Abyss armor."
Verman: "Another piece of advice is don't give up after all the tries and failures. This boss isn't easy to kill so you will need a lot of attempts. Just keep trying and stay positive."
12. Do you have any screenshots or videos to share?
Verman: "We're working on a video of our later attempts to share with friends, but in the meantime we can share a few pics (see below)."
13. Any last comments to share with the community?
Verman: "We'd like to wish all players in future the best of luck trying to kill Tahabata and better luck with drops!"
